Video Demonstration: Activating a Grants Portal Account

This demonstration will show how to activate a Grants Portal account.

  1. Open and review the email from FEMA.
  2. Take note of the username and temporary password provided.

  3. Select the link to sign in to Grants Portal using the temporary password.

  1. When the link is selected, a welcome screen appears in Grants Portal.
    1. The user selects the Grants Portal link.
    2. Grants Portal Welcome page opens.
  2. Select the "Next" button to continue to the "Password" section.

      • USERNAME: Text entry field: state1
      • CHOOSE A PASSWORD: Text entry box
      • RE-ENTER YOUR PASSWORD: Text entry box
      • Password Tips
        • Make your password at least 15 characters long. The longer, the better.
        • Include uppercase and lowercase characters, numbers, punctuation marks, and symbols. The greater the variety, the more secure your password is.
        • Avoid using dictionary words i any language inside of your password.
        • Avoid sequences or repeated characters like 33333333, abcdefg, or characters in order on keyboards, like qwerty or asdfghjk.
        • Do not use personal information that could be guessed or discovered, like names, birthdates, or ID card numbers.

  1. Ensure the username is correct.
    1. USERNAME text entry field selected.
  2. Select the text box under "Choose a Password" and enter a password. Ensure the password is at least 15 characters long and includes uppercase and lowercase characters, number, punctuation marks, or symbols.
    1. CHOOSE A PASSWORD text entry box selected.
    2. The user enters a 16-character password.
    3. During entry, a prompt appears reading, Please enter at least 15 characters. Prompt disappears when 15-character minimum is reached.
    4. During entry, a bar appears indicating password strength. Rating changes from Weak to Normal to Medium.
    5. During entry, a prompt appears below the RE-ENTER YOUR PASSWORD text entry field, reading; The password and confirmation password must match.
  3. Select the text box under "Re-enter your Password" and re-enter the password to confirm it.

    2. The user re-enters the password.
    3. The prompt below the RE-ENTER PASSWORD text entry field disappears when the password is confirmed.
  4. When ready, select the "Next" button to continue to the "Security Question" section.

  1. Select the drop-down under "Security Question" and choose a security question.

    2. The user expands the SECURITY QUESTION dropdown list and selects, "City you met your spouse/significant other?"
    3. Visible options:
      • Please select a security question
      • What was your childhood nickname?
      • City you met your spouse/significant other? (selected)
      • What is the name of your favorite childhood friend?
      • What street did you live on in third grade?
      • What is the middle name of your youngest child?
  2. Select the text box under "Security Answer" and enter the answer for the security question.
    1. SECURITY ANSWER text entry box selected.
    2. The user enters "Pittsburgh."
  3. Select the text box under "Re-enter your Security Answer" and re-enter the answer to the security question.

    2. The user enters "Pittsburgh."
  4. Select the "Next" button to continue to the "Finalize Account" section.

  3. A Congratulations screen appears stating that the account is active and the user now has access to Grants Portal.
