Role of FEMA Regional Offices in Floodplain Management

The responsibilities of FEMA Regional Offices are to:

  • Assist State NFIP coordinating agencies
  • Assess community compliance with NFIP minimum standards
  • Advise local officials responsible for administering floodplain ordinances
  • Answer questions from design professionals and the public
  • Approve community floodplain management regulations
  • Provide information and training on the NFIP floodplain management requirements
  • Assist community review and adoption of new maps and data
