Read the scenario and subsequent questions and then select the answer that reflects what you think you as a CERT volunteer might be doing in response to the situation.
Scenario:
A hurricane struck your area. The rains and wind have subsided. Your CERT was asked to deploy to assess your neighborhood. You, your team leader, and six other CERT members meet at your predesignated meeting area. The team leader divides the group and assigns streets to assess. You and your fellow CERT team members begin your mission.
Activity 1:
On the first block of Adams Street, your group discovers a number of homes with loose vinyl siding and some missing shingles, knocked over trash cans. Flooding is minimal and cars can still get down the street. What do you think will be your CERT’s course of action?
Activity 2:
In the next block, your team discovers a downed power line. What do think your CERT group should do?
Activity 3:
The power line situation is under control and your group continues its mission. Your CERT group discovers a tree has fallen onto a two-story house nearby. People can be heard yelling for help. The building looks to have significant damage. A group of CERT volunteers have gathered. What actions should the CERT members perform?
