Damage by Element — Interior

Interior damage in a non-residential structure incorporates several of the elements of a residential assessment:

  • Surface and subsurface damage
  • Shifting or undermining of heavy machines and equipment
  • Seepage or cracking
  • Loss of structural support
  • Loss of use (not being able to use the property because of the damage)

You may include damage to floors or other permanent features of the structure in this assessment.

Machinery or equipment that is considered a permanent part of the structure should count as part of the interior. For example, a stove at a fast-food restaurant would be considered part of the interior of the structure and would be included in the damage assessment. However, a countertop microwave in the breakroom of an office building should not be assessed for damage.
