To carry out a residential substantial damage assessment, an assessor reviews 12 different structural elements of the home and estimates the percent damaged for each.
It is critical to coordinate with assessors and your substantial damage assessment team lead to ensure that percent damaged estimates are consistent across all team members working in the field.
It is standard practice to use multiples of five when entering percent damaged estimates. Assessors should round off percents to the nearest 5% when completing the Element Percentages tab.
Try not to overcomplicate the assessment. Since you are working in percentages, if 50% of the roof has been torn off the home, then the damage to the roof element should be 50%. Other common fractional percentages, like 33% and 66%, are also acceptable.
