Impact loads are imposed on a building by objects carried by moving water. The magnitude of these loads is difficult to predict, but the loads must be accounted for in the design of retrofitting measures. The four classifications of impact loads are:

• No impact
• Normal impact
• Special impact
• Extreme impact
