Initial Site Visit (1 of 2)

The initial site visit should be used to determine the finished floor elevation and low point of entry (LPE). LPE is not usually addressed on FEMA Elevation Certificates.

Identify:

  • Lowest floor, which can be a basement slab
  • All structure openings, which can include:
    • Windows and doors
    • Mechanical/electrical equipment penetrations and vents
    • Drains and other floor penetrations
    • Water spigots and other wall penetrations
  • Finished floor elevation (unless already identified as the lowest floor elevation)
  • Other site provisions that may require flood protection
  • Elevation reference mark on or near the house

The initial site visit should also be used to complete an initial visual inspection to determine the general building condition.
