In a similar way, the receiver must properly decode your message.  They must reduce the impact of any noise in the process, or risk decoding the wrong message. 

A good receiver gives the sender feedback to confirm what they decoded (not just what they heard).  So if you gave them some bad news such as, "We estimate the bridge will be out for 6 months", their feedback may be, "is that a firm estimated time?"
