External Target Audiences

A key component of any communication is identification of the target audience.

Target audiences may be external or internal.

External target audiences include the general public and the news media that can be described as the conduit to the public.

When considering your audiences, think about these questions:

Is all contact with the general public made through the news media?

Who are your audiences?

NOTE: The PIO also interfaces directly with the public through special events, presentations and social media. Think outside the box when trying to develop communication channels to reach varied audiences.
